IHD Chest Pain – Improves the perception of chest pain

Evidence summary (Updated 2022)
Physical activity is an established treatment to reduce symptom and the amount of chest pain. Expert consensus opinion, via a workshop on 17th April 2018 and subsequent online evaluation, was sought and relevant published literature(1) was reviewed to achieve consensus on the underlying mechanism helping to explain why physical activity can help reduce chest pain.

Quality of Evidence
C – low quality. The rationale for this mechanism is largely derived from expert consensus.

Strength of recommendation
1 – strong recommendation.

Conclusion
Clinical and patient consensus is that physical activity can alleviate symptoms of chest pain, however the evidence is of low quality.
