It is very common for stroke survivors to be concerned about poor balance and strength when walking. However, good evidence shows that activities focused on both strength and fitness significantly improve balance and independent functioning. Even in those who are unable to walk independently, fitness training can improve balance and mobility after stroke.
Tips you may wish to share
Use any walking aids and orthotics prescribed
See your GP to discuss any side-effects from medication
Try chair-based exercises if you feel unsteady standing or walking
Start slowly and gradually build up
Try to incorporate activities into your daily routine
